Patio furniture, also called Garden furniture, is designed for outdoor use and should be manufactured with materials that specifically designed for weather resistance. Whether you are looking to make a patio furniture purchase for you own back yard or for a commercial property this same principle applies.

Traps one might  fall into is the purchase of stylish patio furniture sold at the retail level with a high price tag, where the frames are made from what is considered cast aluminum for example, verses pure solid aluminum.  This “cast” aluminum is made exactly as described in a cast rather than being extruded as with solid aluminum manufacturing and is made up of “junk” metals with only a small solid aluminum base.  This is then very often only coated with a liquid paint which does not hold up to the elements anywhere near as well as powder coated solid aluminum, which process includes an oven bake.  Flaking of the liquid paint will start to occur with a weather process called “oxidation” and very soon refinishing will be required.  This is not the best value for your money and is very substandard obviously.  Other types of patio furniture that are sold are steel made or iron made.  These of course will rust easily, stain decks and require refinishing very often, with rust re-occurring almost immediately!

Saftey First!

The frame is broken into two pieces so the chaise lounge can be shipped from China. This is substandard construction and will greatly shorten the life of your chaise!

Next one should look at the manufacturing of the frames as it relates to safety issues.   No one wants their family or their visiting company to be hurt, cut up or even have fingers sliced off by furniture that is made with safety issues. Cheaply manufactured frames (see picture above) made in pieces or even broken with very sharp edges are prevalent often and other horrific pitfalls occur when little room is given on each side of the headrest so fingers can be cut off.   Now, speaking about headrests, before you buy, check to see if the headrest is held up by a plastic height adjuster or a metal one.  (see picture below) The plastic ones will eventually crack and break from the weather, which can make for a nasty fall to the chaise level if it breaks as someone leans back, not to mention a bad bump to the head.

Quality chaise lounges use solid aluminum, welded height adjusters.

Buy from the patio furniture manufacturers.

Try to buy patio furniture direct from the manufactures that manufacture AND sell the products! Not only will you receive a very safe, quality product, many times designed and made for commercial use in mind, but the direct warranty is invaluable.

Do not get lured in by cheap prices.

Although you will find several retail stores that sell very cheaply and give furniture at low prices, beware before spending your hard-earned cash on those products. They are mostly made of low quality materials as described above and you will be just wasting your money.
